You seem to be tracing a brother of one of my Carrolls. Here's what I have so far:
Nathaniel Carroll - born 1786-89 and died by 1850. The Macon County Heritage Book stated that his place of birth and parents names had at the time of that writing not yet been proved. He appeared in 1804 in Lincoln Co, NC, when he purchased land on Potts Creek. The census shows him in Lincoln Co until 1810. He was in Haywood Co in 1820 and Macon Co in 1830 and 1840.The census also indicates several children. The Macon Co Heritage book article gives these as: Richmond, Samuel, Rachel, John, Absolom, and Sarah Caroline.
Richmond - born about 1802 and died between 1870 and 1880, probably in Floyd Co, GA. His children: Lucinda, Mary Polly, and Wiley F. Carroll.
Samuel - born about 1807 and died by 1870. Married Jane Clemmons. Parents of seven: John, William, Elijah, Rachel Minerva, Mary Polly Caroline, James Ervin, George.
John - born about 1816. Married Ruth Voyles and parents of: James N., Richmond, Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth, Martha Ruth, John and Samuel.
Rachel - born about 1812-1820 and married Nicholas Willis Jones in Macon CO., NC. Parents of: Mary A., Martha A., William James, Sarah, Joseph M., Samuel G., Cordelia, and Thomas L. C. Jones.
Sarah Caroline - born March 18, 1821,married Miles D. Jones, died January 22, 1915 - Parents of: Mary Elvira, Margaret L., Wilson Taylor, Henrietta A., John W, Eliza C. and Cordelia D. Jones. Her marriage bond shows she was the daughter of N. Carroll and the bond was signed by Samuel Carroll, her brother.
Absolom Carroll - our common relative - born August 1818. Married Nancy Ledford and second Rebecca Ledford - sisters. By these two wives he had 18 children. He died about 1906. The Macon Co Heritage Book (page 182 - submitted by Missy Cole Carroll) states "His pension application for serving in the Indian War shows he enlisted in Franklin, NC, was five feet ten inches tall and had a dark complexion and black hair. He served in Captain Thomas Angel's Company of North Carolina Volunteers."The list of his 18 children and their spouses, dates, etc., can be found at:

Your Absolom Lafayette Carroll was son of Rebecca and my Thomas C. Carroll was son of Nancy. I do disagree with some of the spouses shown at that site - this Christopher Columbus Carroll did not marry America Sneed but I do not have who I think he married at hand just now.
My tree (or really my husband's tree) goes on as follows:
Thomas C. Carroll b. 1853 and died 1929. He married Amy Cornelia Emmaline Cline. Cornelia (as she signed her son's marriage license) was the daughter of Lawson Cline. Their children:Lawson Absolom, Iowa, John, Harriet, Bassie, Willie, Fred Clingman, Ella, Maggie.
Lawson Absolom born August 9, 1869, married Martha Marinella Coleman August 24, 1889, andafter her death on January 5, 1918, he married Laura Killian on August 31, 1918. He died October 14, 1948.Martha was the daughter of Rev. William Absalom Coleman and Jane Elizabeth Kilpatrick. Their pictures can be seen at:http://www.flex.net/u/golden/nc-state/cherokee/cole1.htmhttp://www.flex.net/u/golden/nc-state/cherokee/cole1.htm
Lawson Absolom was a Baptist minister who married a Baptist minister's daughter. Their children: Frank Eustace (our grandfather), Gilbert Henry, Andrew Jackson, Bessie Ann, Ruth Melissa, Janie Mae. With Laura Killian he had Lawson Henry, Billy Robert, Harley or Harvey?, Claude, Bertha, Hazel and a step-son Clarence.
That is pretty much what I have. I hope you use GenForum and other sites as stepping off points and proceed to document information you find there with marriage licenses and death certificates and so on.I had to chuckle when in one of your messages you referred to the correct spelling of Absolom - on his marriage license it is spelled three ways!I don't think they took spellin' too serious back then!
I wish you well in your search - please let me know if you have found any photos of common relatives to share as I have none.
Have you also looked at the Western North Carolina sites? The Delayed Birth Certificates and other data bases are real helpful there.
