So Mormons do genealogy for spiritual reasons, which I guess I knew, but not how it works. Sounds like an impossible death date refers not to the physical plane but to a spiritual world where the soul finally is released from limbo (or purgatory?) and enters Heaven, because that lost soul is formally recognized and "certified" by the church and spititually reunited with it's ancestors. It's a rather beautiful thought actually... but confusing to worldly genealogy.
