Looking for information on my gg-grandfather, John Carroll, who owned Carroll Lake in NC. He died around 1927 and was in the Civil War. He had a brother, James, who went west - supposedly to Texas. A family story tells that John sold the Lake to get a son out of jail -- it was supposedly sold to the Boy Scouts, who then sold it to a sand and gravel company. John had at least two sons, Charlie and my great-grandfather, James Benjamin Carroll (b. Feb. 1891 d. Feb. 1947 in Blairsville, GA; m. Mary Pendergress possibly in Hayesville, NC. Mary was b. 1898 d. 1930 in Cherokee Co., NC), and several daughters: Verdie (m. Bob Garrett), Ida, Lucy (m. D. Franklin of Marble, NC), Ann, Barbara (m. ? Buchanan and moved to IN), and Julie.
I've had no luck in tracing this branch of the family! If anyone can help, please e-mail me. Thanks!
