I visited the Carroll Cemetery back in May (I live in South Carolina) and was confused by the newness of the tomb stone. It has obviously been replaced recently. I found in the DAR Cemetery Records that cemetery was recorded in 1983 and at that time the tomb stone read
HARRY L. CARROLL
d. Feb. 6, 1865 aged 39yrs 10 mos 18 ds
"Blessed are they that die in the Lord."
"Erected by the children"
Although the newer tomb stone list all the children I don't think many are buried there (Is your James Carroll there?)
I do not know who replaced the stone. I have been trying to get information from the Dumonds who run the cemetery but have had no luck.
I have not been able to find anything on Henry L.'s parents. I too have found other Carrolls near by but do not know the relationship. On the 1855 Henry is living next to Walter Carroll which would make one think they are related but who knows. Have you had any luck in going back beyond Henry?
