Do you know where the name Alfred came to be in the Carroll line? My ggrandmother, Mary Carroll Gately Tobin had a son she named Alfred that was born in the 1870's in San Francisco. I have been trying to figure out where the name Alfred came from. I have
no information on her prior to her arriving in SF (as a "rich" widow)with 5 children and servants. She married Richard Tobin there and herfirst son was named Richard, second and last son was named Alfred Aloysius Tobin.
