I don't know your Carroll in particular, but know that my great grandfather was John C. Carroll, married to Catherine Flaherty. They moved to cincinatti in 1897. They had 2 kids: William John and Margaret. Catherine died in 1912 and John in 1916. The 2 kids were in an orphanage for awhile- then Margaret went to California to lived with Tom and Carroll relations. William was eventually released from the orphanage by a Mrs. Mary Carroll of Cincinatti, but I've no idea who she really is or how she's related. Anyway, if you have a Mrs. Mary Carroll, perhaps we're related. If so, I have much more on our branch.
