My great great grandmother, Ellen Carroll (1836-1917) and her brothers James and Richard, emigrated about 1852 from Hugginstown, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, to Illinois. Ellen Carroll's parents were Richard and Mary Spencer Carroll of Hugginstown. Ellen Carroll married Owen Donahue in 1856 in Joliet, Illinois, and settled in Frankfort, Illinois, for many years. They had 8 children: Chris, Daniel, John, Anna, Owen, Ella, Eva, and James. In 1884, the family moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa. Anna stayed in Illinois and married James Walsh. Ellen Carroll Donahue's daughter, Ellen Donahue Murphy (1871-1966), was my great grandmother. Ellen Carroll Donahue died in Emmetsburg, Iowa, in 1917.
