I too am kin to Charles Carroll of Maryland. Carroll Cannon of Charleston, SC had a book given to him because he was a descendent of a signer of the declaration of independence. My mother was supposed to receive it but Carroll Cannon's son widow married an old book dealer and consequently she never got it. My grandfather was Cary Kennedy Durfey and his mother was a Carroll(Frances) from Baltimore. They were Presbyterian even though I understand that originally they were Catholic. Some of this branch were Jones who worked in the Presbyterian bookstore in Richmond. I was always told that the first Catholic bishop in America was a Carroll from this same family. Woman with a Sword is about Anna Carroll, isn't it. She, I understood, was a war strategist for Lincoln. Lucy Mercer, FDR's girlfriend, is also part of this family.
