I'm searching for information on Sarah Jane Carrington. I don't have much to go on but what I do know is as follows:
She died Dec 1, 1941. She was unmarried, no record of children. She owned and sold quite a bit of land (mostly in the 1920s), specifically in the Lincolnville/Asbury community west of Raleigh NC. She donated a piece of that land in 1926 to the Lincolnville AME church. Remaining land went to auction after her death as she left no will.
I'm curious about her because we found a grave or memorial of some sort on the former church land that looks like a headstone and has a white picket fence in the shape of a grave. There are no birth/death dates, only the inscription "In Memory of Sarah Carrington who dedicated this land to Linconlnville AME Church 1927. Church built 1929. Church is now located in the Village of Yesteryear Historical Site - NC Fairgrounds". The church was moved in 1983 and we get the impression it may have replaced an earlier marker. On various county maps, this is referred to both as a memorial and as a grave.
Anyways, I'm curious if this is Sarah Jane's final resting place (it is the only such marker) but more in her story if anyone can share it.
