I also descend from Joseph Carriere and Marie Louisa Lavergne through son Michel who married (finally) Juliann Marcantel. New Orleans Sacramental Records, Vol. 2, p 44 shows that Michel Carierre, son of Joseph and Maria Laverge was born 10 May 1760? and baptized 22 June, 1760. (Apparently the actual year of birth was somewhat illegible.)

Father Donald Hebert did a wonderful job of extracting records for Southwest Louisiana Parishes from church and court house records.

The Succession (#76) for Michel Carriere is dated 12 Feb 1816 (Opelousas Court House).

Succession inventory of Joseph Carriere, widower of Marie Louise Laverge is dated 18 Feb. 1790. Opelousas.

From the Genealogical Dictionary of Families of Quebec, p 204: Joseph Carriere b 24 Apr 1682 Pointe-aux-Trembles; engage 24 Apr 1708 for Mobile. Son of Andre and Cecile (Janot) Carriere. In Mobile, Joseph married Marguerite Trepanier, daughter of Claude Trepanier and Geneive Burel. There is a most interesting account of "The Pilican Girls" who came to Mobile.

I have more records from reliable sources. Please contact me.

Thanks for the Andre Carriere website.
