Hello fellow Carriers, I took a little time last month and worked on the W. John Carrier Sr. line some more and found the information I have been looking for. Some of you may have this and some may not: I have finally pinpointed where the Carrier family came from in England. They are from Bruton Parish, Somerset in the southwest of England. I have seen this area of England and it is truly lovely country. The Carrier family resided there at least from 1681 (marriage records) and probably well before. This website may help you if you want to delve more: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~parishregisters/somerset/bruton/bruton.htm You will note that W. John Carrier Sr. married Elizabeth White there in 1724. She later died before the family's migration to America. They had at least three children together that I know about: 1) W. John Jr. 2) Henry Carrier 3) Thomas Carrier I am not completely certain on the following point, but some evidence suggests that Henry and Thomas came to America ahead of the rest of the family. They both fought in the French and Indian war and may have sent for their father and older brother later. Eventually, all three of the above brothers served in the American Revolutionary War. W. John Sr. then married Jemima Nicholas and had several more children. I believe that W. John Sr. and Jr. came to America with the Nicholas family as a family unit. Richard Nicholas seems to have been Jemima's brother. I will be setting up a website for all that I have in the next few months or so. I have managed to uncover a few more interesting things about later generations of Carriers that I will be able to share on the site. Notify Administrator about this message?
