I know the name Ruth (nee Jefferson)DeCecchis I was searching for the name of her parents. I thought they were Thomas H. and Elizabeth ? Jefferson. Gilberta (nee DeCecchis)and Harold Myers live in west Ridgway.. her brother was Joe DeCecchis. My grandparents and their children lived in Portland Mills during the years the Ruth DeCecchis lived there. I was told Ruth and my aunt, Gilberta, were close friends.
I wondered who owned the camp type building in Lake City where there was a well-tended garden I was told it belonged to the DeCecchis family which didn't make sense to me until I found out Mrs. DeCecchis was a Jeffeson.
Back in 1891 my grandfather purchased 8 acres of land from John Culver in Hartman (became Lake City) where he built a two story house. Within site of his land was the Culver property which became the Smith property. (Geneva Jefferson was the wife of Charlie Albert Smith)..next was the Jefferson property ..that house burned down.. next was the Gust Olson property which is still owned by the heirs of Gust Olson..down the road is the Lake City Church ..across the road is the old schoolhouse which is being taken back to it's original status which will probably open this summer with a museum in the second story. Clarence Buell Carrier was a teacher at the Lake City School and so were two of my aunts and four of their first cousins.
Thomas H. Jeffeson purchased the land where he built his house from John K. Moore who was the man who also once owned the land where the schoolhouse was built.
I have Milton Carrier's wife as Sarah Helen (nee Strong)
with children: Nellie, Clarence Buell, Myrtle Elenora, Milton Leroy and Winifred
RootsWEb lists Milton Carrier's father as Euphrastus Carrier (his parents David and Sarah Carrier)Euphrastu's wife as Harriet Robin (nee Buell)...the middle name of Clarence Buell Carrier.
I have wife of Clarence Buell Carrier as Gertrude Clementine (nee Davis); Myrtle Eleanor Carrier husband William Clarence Mumaw; Grace Gerhart as wife of Milton LeRoy Carrier; Andrew Wallace Love as husband of Nellie Carrier and Winfred Carrier married John R. Lawther (?)
Darius Carrier and his wife Elizabeth (nee Hetrick) Carrier..settlers once of Warsaw Twp. Jeff co had a large family. I do not know his exact relationship to James Carrier but it's very likely there were related. Martha Carrier b. abt 1849 daughter of Darius and Elizabeth (nee Hetrick) Carrier married David K. Moore, son of Darius Moore. Mary E. Carrier, dau of Darius married Thomas Raine who bought about 1,550 acres of land from John K. Moore of Lake City..Raine developed Rainetown/Raintown.
The Carriers, the Moores, the Smiths, the Kennedys, the Fulmers, the Jeffersons, and the Shaffers of Lake City were/are closely related. Mrs. Minnie (nee Fulmer) Shaffer, age about 99, born in Lake City died about a week ago.
My family genealogy to Lake City includes..the Olsons and the Jones families..my in-law's family connections are the Smiths, the Kennedys, the Shaffers, the Fulmers and the Jeffersons.
Mrs. Gust Olson was Eleanor Jones..her brother was Alvin O. Jones ..Alvin built the big white house at the top of Lake City hill..across the road from his house is where my grandfather built his house...now an open farm field...Alvin's house changed owners numerous times: Corbet, Munson .. now owned by a Dentist who has his pratice in Ridgway.
