Thank you so much Walter. I have found some more information since the last posting. It seems that this family usually spelled their name Carriere in LA; on the death certificate of Elmer, his son gave Elmer's parents' names as Armand Carrier and Clemence St Cyr. I have found
what MAY be this couple on only one census--1880 in St. Landry Parish---Armand age 32 and wife Clementine age 27 with children- twins Phillip and Celeste 8 years; Noel 4 years; Enos 3 years and Theresa 1 year. Elmer was not born until 1892. I didn't find Armand in the earlier or later (internet)censuses, and tried quite a few different spellings.

Thank you so much for your kind help; LA researching is new to me, I love the names! The possibility of them maybe being Acadian is really exciting! pat v
