Judith. The coat of arms consists of three stalks of reeds (carricos) on a mound above water. The family occupation was wine making--they were farmers of the 11th century. The history here is that Henrigues, the first Portuguese King was known for awarding coats of arms to farmers, not just knights, because of their help in resettling and securing the land after driving the Moors out--the so-called Reconquista.
