Portugal, originally. Peter arrived in 1674 with a dozen others having English surnames. They were transported by an Englishman named Dobson. However, I have researched the derivation of the name and can confirm that it is Portuguese. I've been to our ancestral village, a thousand year-old town on the central coast of Portugal named Matos do Carrico. You can look it up in an atlas. It is about half way between Lisbon and Porto. There is a coat of arms. I can tell you more about it if you would like. Tim Carrico Weaver
