Melungeons were a group of people of unknown origon who were supposedly in the Appalachian region when the early settlers arrived. There are a variety of theories about them - check them out on the WWW. There are several sites that you can find with any of the search engines. It really is a fascinating story. The name Carrico shows up on the list of family names that are associated with the Melungeons.
