Now someone tells me they weren't Loyalists, but Revolutionaries. Will someone please tell me what it means to sign the "Oath of Loyalty and Support" in 1778. Loyalty to whom?

The following were all said (H.E. Carrico, 1951) to have subscribed to the "Oath of Loyalty and Support" in Charles County, MD,
in 1778:

Peter Carrico, Jr. (b. ca. 1722 in Charles Co., MD)
No. 300 in Peter Wood's Company, Charles County Militia, 1778
Joseph Carrico (b. ca. 1744 in Charles Co., MD)
John Carrico (b. ca. 1739 in Charles Co., MD)
James Carrico (b. 1760 in Charles Co., MD)

Also, the following was said to have subscribed to the "Oath of Loyalty and Support" in Montgomery County,
MD, in 1778:

Thomas Ignatius Carrico (b. 1741 in Charles Co., MD)

On the other hand, the following was said to have been a "Revolutionary Minute Man":
Alexander Carrico (b. ca. 1750 in Charles Co., MD)
