Fred, I have a feeling that Matthew G. Carrico was the nephew of Vincent Carrico, who married 1st Frances Estes and 2nd Susannah Quick. Here is an Arkansas document which might be of interest to you. An excerpt from "The Settlers of Lovely County and Miller County 1820-1830", compiled by Melinda Blanchard Crawford and Donald L. Crawford: "Certificate #112; Claim #18: Garrett M. Hensley Land Office at Fayetteville 19th June 1837 Be it remembered that on this day personally appeared before the Register and Receiver of the District of land subject to sale at Fayetteville Arkansas, Garrett M. Hensley who being duly sworn according to law deposeth & says that in the fall of 1827 he purchased an improvement in that portion of the Country which ceased to be a part of the Territory of Arkansas by virtue of the treaty with the Cherokee Indians West of the Mississippi River, approved on the 24th of May 1828, And that he was over the age of twenty one years and the head of a family which consisted of a wife & two children, That in the Month of April 1828 he removed to his said improvement with one hundred and ninety head of Sheep, two yoke of Oxen and waggon [sic] & farming utentials [sic], two horses and two hired hands, that he cultivated in that year three acres of Corn Cabbage Potatoes ect his improvement consisted of a cabbin [sic] and three acres of cleared land (above aluded [sic] to) and that his improvement was situated within half a mile of the Bayou Benard [sic] and that Mrs. Gold, Mrs. Moore, [Mr.] Carico, Larkin Womack and Mr. McLaughlin were his nearest neighbours [sic], & that he removed from said improvement in the fall following to the state of Missouri and that he was forced to remove in consequence of the said Treaty with the Cherokee Indians, and that he never has established or attempted to establish his claim to a Donation of land at any other Land office in this state. Sworn to & Subcribed The date above Mathew Luper Rec" A researcher on Rootsweb's World Connect who is a paid genealogist, interpreted "Mr. Carico" to be James Q. Carrico. I found no documented evidence James Q. Carrico was ever in Arkansas. My 3rd great grandfather was the Larkin Womack in the above text. He was b. 1785 and married Frances Bayse Quick bef. Nov 1815 St. Louis Co., MO. She was the widow of Jonas Quick who had died bef. 22 Nov 1813. Jonas Quick's sister, Susannah Quick married Vincent Carrico 1796 Madison Co., KY. Jonas Quick's brother Daniel Quick married Frances Piggott. My 5X great grandmother, Frances James married 1st Bennett Ballew/Belieu. Their dau., Agnes Ballew married John Walter Basye. Frances Basye Quick Womack was the daughter of Agnes Ballew and John Walter Basye. Frances James Ballew married 2nd Capt. James Piggott. Their dau., Frances Piggott married Daniel Quick. Vincent Carrico's son, James Q. Carrico, b. 1792 KY, married 1818 (near St. Louis) MO Matilda Weaver, dau., of Elijah David Weaver and Fannie Womack, b. ca. 1780. I believe Fannie Womack and my Larkin Womack were siblings. And I think Larkin Womack and Elijah and Fannie Womack Weaver and the Weaver children left White Co., TN together and were in St. Louis Co., MO by 1814. Their son, Larkin Weaver and Edmond B. Basye (Frances Basye's brother) were with Larkin Womack in this same county in Arkansas in 1830. Larkin Womack and Frances Basye Quick were in AR by 1828, where he was deeded land in Crawford (now Sebastian) Co. This was a part of the old Lovely Co., AR. Larkin migrated to Panola Co., TX by 1836 where he died in 1849. The widow Frances (Francis) Basye Quick Womack was enumerated on the 1850 Panola Co., TX census with some of her children. I saw on one post where Matthew Carrico married Rachel Wilkerson. I have a Wilkerson/Wilkinson connection to the Womacks in Panola Co. I hope this gives you some new ideas. If you think that "Mr. Carico" could have been your Matthew Carrico, you might check out the the referenced book. I believe it's available through Barnes & Noble. Let me hear from you!
