Seeking information on a Carreras family on Gibraltar in the late 1800s. They may have been ships chandlers.
A man believed to have been named Simon Carreras married Catherine Purvis of Ireland, with whom he had 14 children, most, if not all, of whom were born on Gibraltar. One of the sons was Simon Evangelista Carreras, British subject, who held a post with Queen Victoria's government, in which capacity he traveled all over the world. He relinquished these duties to become an Anglican priest around 1905, and in about 1910 in Cuba (Havana?) he married Agatha Chil.
I would appreciate any information on this particular family, and I would also like to know if Enrique Carreras, 1880-1950, British film industry magnate, was one of the 14 children. His son, Sir James Carreras, 1909-1990, was one of the founders of Hammer Films, and James's son, Michael, 1927-1994, followed his father into the family business.
Thank you for any information or leads.
