James Madison Carroll / Carrell 1829

I am looking for information on a James Madison Carroll (Possibly spelled Carrell) who was born in 1829. He moved to the Washington teritory at around 19 years of age and later married in Cowlitz County - I have all of the family information from this point on.

However, I hit a road block at every attempt to discover any relations of James - according to family rumor, James refused to discuss the subject of his parents and possible sibblings.

At one point he claimed his family was from Virginia, then later claimed they were from Kentucky. I have nothing but dead ends in both states so far.

Does anyone have a lost male relation with the last name of Carroll or Carrell that would be born around 1829? (Family rummor suggests that he may have assumed the name of a deceased older brother or cousin when he headed out west.)
