Carraher (Eleanor/Elinor/Ellen)
I must agree the Carraher name is indeed a difficult name to trace. I lost the trail of mine (working backwards of course), while still here in America. My only clue as to any nationality is an elder relative who states she is sure her father used to say that his mother Eleanor was from Scotland. As far as I know her father's name was Henry and it was he who immigrated to either Scotland or England from Ireland during the famine period. This is all just circumstantial since I haven't any records confirming this story. Her first name varies on each record I have found, but since other relatives named for her have the spelling of Eleanor, I am assuming Elinor/Ellen were nicknames and misspellings. They finally settled in Bergen County, New Jersey. Some children of hers were born in earlier in New York, which makes me suspect a possible migration from Canada.
Any info on any of this is appreciated.
