Carpentier to Belway, possible name change- Canada
My great, great grandmother is Sarah Jane Belway, born likely 1847, possibly Christmas day, somewhere in Ontario. Her background on the 1881 Canadian census says French in origin. She married Thomas Hyde the 2nd in about 1870, had ten children with him, and they ended up in Chicago by 1893, where she was buried in 1915.My grandmother said her maiden name might have been Carpentier, and although most records say Belway, her youngest son George's death certificate says Carpentier.I suspect her own family might have moved from Quebec to Ontario and "anglified" their name to fit in.Her parents might have been Leo and Sarah, but this I haven't proven yet.Anyone?
