Charles Carpenter - born 1810 - Prominent Citizen of Kelley's Island, Ohio
I have posted a review of "History of the Fire-Lands," published in 1879 by WW Williams on the "Firelands History Website": http://firelands.wordpress.comhttp://firelands.wordpress.com.
Included in this book is a biography of Charles Carpenter, born in 1810 in Norwich, Connecticut and who was a prominent citizen of Kelley's Island in the Firelands of Northwestern Ohio. This biography also includes portraits of Charles and his wife Caroline Carpenter (nee: Kelley).
The Firelands, or Sufferers' Land, was set aside for "Sufferers" in Connecticut whose homes were burned by the British during the American Revolution. It includes present day Huron, Erie, Ottawa, and Ashland Counties in Ohio.
My post includes a short synopsis of "History of the Fire-Lands" and the Table of Contents with links to the book's histories, biographies and illustrations of the pioneers and their families.
I invite you to check out this interesting biography of Charles and Caroline Kelley and other pioneers of the Firelands.
