David Hurst of McNairy County, Tn (1813-1883), son of Elijah Hurst, was married to Elizabeth Carpenter, who was born about 1812.Their eldest child was a daughter, Eusebia Greenville Hurst, born in 1839: my great grandmother. She was the first of twelve children. She did have a sister named Elizabeth, who married Hiram Shepard ("Shep") Morton in McNairy County.
Eusebia married David Marion Morris, and was disowned by her father for it because Morris was Cherokee. They had seven daughters, including my grandmother, Melissa Morris Carothers. The youngest of their children was Martha Luticia Morris Weeks, who told her granddaughter, Mildred Weeks Sasso, that Elizabeth Carpenter Hurst's family lived near Iuka, Mississippi, and that she used to go and visit them there, and that Elizabeth's mother was a McAfee.
I have never been able to prove it, but in my own mind I am convinced that Elizabeth's parents were John and Penelope McAfee Carpenter.Everything points in that direction, and nothing speaks against it, though I have not found the definitive proof......yet.
