Looking for any family information for James Carothers/Caruthers who served in the Revolutionary War from Augusta VA. His pension application executed May 13, 1833 in Blount Co TN states that he has resided there about 30 years, was born Apr 5, 1760 in Chester County PA. When about 10 years old he moved with his father and family to Augusta Co VA where he enlisted Aug 25, 1778. He died Jan 13, 1846 in Blount Co. TN. He married in the year 1806 in Staunton, Augusta Co. VA to Margaret Jackson born Jun 1, 1769. That would place him at age 46 at the time of this marriage so it is possible he was married previously. His widow was allowed pension on her application executed Feb 21, 1853 at which time she was a resident of Blount Co. TN. No children or parent’s names are mentioned. Testimonies were given in 1853 by Harvey H.C. Carothers, Justice of the Peace in Blount Co., and David J. Caruthers.
Virginia marriage records show a James Careather m. Margaret Jackson Dec 17, 1805 in Augusta VA.
David Caruthers age 36 born TN is found on the 1850 Blount Co TN census with Margaret Caruthers age 78 born PA in the household.
There are numerous Carothers marriages in early 1800 Blount Co – can anyone tell me if any are connected to the soldier James Carothers – especially Ester Corruthers who married Robert Wilson Feb 22, 1814? Thanks!
