David, Thank you for the follow up. I am still considered a novas at the genealogy research but am learning more and more every day. I just by chance ran across find a grave on one of my adventures in cyber space. Still looking for information on James and Lydia so I did sent off for the marriage bond/license on James Carruthers born about 1713. He married Lydia Roberts on December 6, 1733 in Cumberland Co New Jersey. The information states that James was from Salem NJ and Lydia was from Cohansie NJ. Sad to say it did not list any parents. James Caruthers then dies on December 24, 1747 in Salem NJ without a will. I sent off for the probate papers only to find out that his wife Lydia gives up her right to administrator to Samuel Holms (Holmes). Once again no mention of parents. (And yes it is Roberts not Robbins as so many people seem to think it is!) I also have a bond / marriage license for Obediah Carruthers/Elizabeth Venables. On that bond it states we Obediah Carruthers and James Carruthers of Greenwick County of Cumberland Providence of New Jersey and so on. The marriage license itself is signed by both Obediah and James Carruthers with Mary Ewing as a surrogate. The date on this shows 1768. I believe this Obediah and James are the sons of James and Lydia Carruthers. Notes and Queries of Pennsylvania show Richard as the son of James Carruthers and Lydia Roberts. So I send for his information Richard Caruthers/Mary Ewing dated 1780. Now this one shows Richard and brother in law of his late wife Philanah Mills, Uriah Mills on the bond. The marriage license signed by Mary Fithian and then father in law to Richard, Ephraim Mills. Boy my head is spinning now!!! I did send an email to another researcher who is very educated on the Carruthers Family and he writes back that some of the Carruthers went from Annandale to Cumberland and formed a Presbyterian communities in the parishes of Kirklinton, St. Andrews on Esk and Arthuret. So with that I’m off to England!!!! Again thank you for your time and help, Dana Caruthers Norton Notify Administrator about this message?
