Dan, I'm surprised this hasn't raised a flurry of comments, it may yet. I'm not researching Carothers, so I can't contribute to the controversy. I believe there is a question on James Carothers Sr. b:4/17/1750 in Scotland and his spouse(s). The record I have refers to Bible records, North Carolina State records, and DAR records which are not considered 100% reliable. I have James Carothers Sr. marrying first Mary Neely, and second Agnes Woods. As you have an Agness Neely marrying James Carothers in your records, you can see what I mean. There is a question of where "Woods" comes from. The Bible record mentioned does not say who owned it, only that it is an old family Bible of James Carothers, published in 1797, and was recorded in 1803 by himself. I do not have this information in a gedcom type file, but I could email you the scanned pages referenced if you would like to dig through them. Regards, Earl Notify Administrator about this message?
