Hello Earl Hodges

I'm a descendant of James Carothers, Sr.
born 1750/51, died 1836 and Agness (Neely),
born 1755, died 1814, both of Steel Creek,
Mecklenburg Co., NC, and of Allison Creek,
York Co., SC. I have tried to find a record
(from the time that they lived) of their
children, but there is no estate record
for James or for Agness in York Co., SC,
probate records. There are some references
in the Neely and Carothers wills in Mecklen-
burg to some of James' and Mary's early
children only.

The Bible record from 1803 that you mention
is of great interest to me. Do your records
state who had possession of the Bible at the
time that someone (in Sumter or Rock Hill?)
put together the pamphlet you mentioned?
Could you post the data from the Bible online?

Thanks for any help you may give.
Dan

P.S. Did you know that your Samuel Dinsmore
Carothers had a first cousin who was the son
of William Carothers and Dorcas (Dinsmore) and
this cousin had the same name Samuel Dinsmore
Carothers (being named for his maternal grand-
father Samuel Dunsmore)? The other SDC was born
in 1818 and died in 1883 in York Co., SC. He
married late in life (1860) to Mary Jane Steele
and they had only one child, a daughter Martha.
