I was just looking over the Carothers forum and saw your July post. I noticed you titled it Carothers of Huntingdon County, Pa, although in your message you did not say what the connection was. I assume you know of one.
I am fairly familiar with the two Carothers families of Pa.
One was based in the Carlisle area, and one in Huntingdon, which is about 75 (very difficult) miles away, up in the mountains.
From the names you give, Nancy and David, I would suspect you may well be a descendant of James Carruthers, born 1738 Scotland, who settled in Huntingdon, two wives, the first Nancy Neely, the second Abigail Henderson. Between them he had 14 children. By the second wife he had children named Nancy and David Neely.
One of his sons by the first wife, named James born 1770, Huntingdon, Pa (my ancestor) married Mary Fitzsimons. He named one his children Nancy Neely, born 1801. He had a number of other children, but I do not know their names, but the point is that this large family was using both the names Nancy and David. You might want to track this family bottom down and see if one of the descendants of James 1738 is the parent of your ancestor. One source you may want to try to track down is the Margaret Pilcher book,
Historical Sketches of the Campbell, Pilcher and Kindred families, which actually is the genealogical book with the most information on the Huntingdon Carothers. It is available on Heritagequest.
