Thomas,
Thanks for replying to my query.I would love to get copies of the information you have that was not in my query. Can you answer the question of who the John Caruthers is that James Clay deeded his rights to.I believe he is the John next to Isham Clay in the 1790 Salisbury District, Mecklenburg County Census as 1 M 16+ and 2 F. In the 1800 census of Cabarrus County, same ares county line changed in 1792, he is listed as 1 M 45+ and 1 F 45+.The earlier research paperwork I have seen had his as Eleanor's husband which I feel is not right. There was a statement that John died probably around 1805 due to Elinor selling property then. The property I saw was a slave slave Elinor and Mary Clay sold in July 1805.June 1805 was when James Clay signed away his rights to the Carothers estate.Right after this James and Mary disappear from the records of the area.It looks like they were getting traveling money. I am trying to locate them. The three Clay families in this area on the 1800 census were gone in the 1810 census. In the 1820 census you see James and Mary's children in the census. I have a lot of information on their descendents I am willing to share but nothing on James and Mary after that point.
