Elaine, According to family tradition (?) my Carney line came from England to VA. abt. the mid-1700s. My Mary Carney m. Richard Grills. They were in Washington Co., TN. in the late 1700s as their son Isaiah Grills was born there in 1797, but according to some info., which I found at the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis, Richard Grills d. in N.C.
