Jack: I believe Thomas Carney is the father of John Carney, born 15 April 1757 in Frederick Co. VA, enlisted from Botetourt Co. VA in 1776 in the Revolutionary War, moved to Washington Co. TN (then NC), Scott Co. KY, Jennings Co., IN, then Bartholomew Co. IN, dying after 9/1840. I have found Thomas Carney in Botetourt Co., VA at same time as John, (tax list) and Thomas and John Carney in Washington Co., TN records. John's son Pleasant and Elizabeth Emerson Carney and their family were in Scott Co., KY in 1810 census, listed close to John and family and both families moved to IN in 1819. I believe Thomas' wife was named Sarah; John was listed as bondsman for a daughter? Sarah who married Baultis Hamer in 1791 in Washington Co. In the 1840 Bartholomew Co. IN census Johna and wife were living with the Pleasant Carneys. Pleasant Carney's daughter Catherine Carney Patrick b. 1809, Scott Co. KY, d. Oct. 1854, Vernon Twp. Jennings Co. IN was my g.g.g. grandmother.
