Researching Thomas Carney in Bertie Co., NC, from 1780. Is he the Thomas Carney who was in the 1800 and 1810 censuses of Pitt Co., NC? In 1781 Bertie Co., he had to post a bastardy bond for having a child by Elizabeth Wimberly. I can prove this child was my William W. Carney who d. 1845 in Caldwell Co., KY. Who were Thomas's parents? Some say he came from Norfolk Co., VA.
