I am the daughter of James J. Carney b. 1911 in New York City (around 110 St., Manhattan). His father was also named James, but we know next to nothing about him as he left the family around 1917. He was the grandson of a Sullivan (the Irish connection). He drove a trolley in NYC. We believe he died around 1922 or 1923. He may have married again and had other children.
