I, too am trying to trace my Carney roots. My gggggrandfather was Samuel Carney of Norfolk County, VA (now known as the cities of Portsmouth & Chesapeake in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Samuel was first married to Lydia & they had children named Barneby (or Barnaby), Margret (or Margaret), Ann B., John B.,James, Samuel,Stephon (or Stephen), Thomas, Sarah (my ggggmother), and Lydia. Samuel later married "Nancy" and they had a son, William Loid Wheeler Carney.
