I am researching the Carney or Kearney
Family who migrated from Mount Charles,
County Donegal, Ireland approximately 1890’s
to work in Butte or Helena Montana at the
Anaconda mines and/or possible others.
Their names are Manus, John, Patrick, James,
Hugh, Ann, Cassy, Una and Susan. Ann was married
in Ireland before coming here. Ann’s married name
was either Crimmins or McCrimmins. Manus and
John were killed sometime around 1890.
Patrick and James (my great grandfather)returned
to Mt. Charles. After James returned, he married
Mary Sweeney. Hugh, Cassy, Ann Crimmons,
Una and Susan remained in the Butte or Helena
area. One of the girls married a man whose last
name was Howard and might have come from Canada.

My grandfather, Dominick Michael or Michael
Dominick (not sure which name was really first)
visited the Carney and Howard families in the
early 1920’s when he immigrated to Canada
from Mt. Charles, County Donegal.
He mentioned something about a newspaper
or a relative being a reporter for a newspaper.
He left shortly to look for work in New York.

If anyone has any information about any of
the family members I have mentioned,
please e-mail me.

Thank you in advance

Mary
