Have you checked the Carney family of Norfolk VA for your James. According to my records, there are several possibilities, but I seem to have very little information on any of them. Richard and Susaner Carney had a son named James. Richard left a will (Norfolk Co. Will Bk. 2, page 119 proved Jan 31, 1779. Also, William Carney, wife Charity had a son named James and I have in some old notes that he married Martha ??. William left a will recorded in Will Bk 2, page 154.
