Hi! I went to the DNA Project but was unsure if I was looking at the right persons. I have a Carney DNA question that could be answered by the right Carney males. My g grandmother was Dixie Mariah Carney, daughter Robinson Carney and Amelia Snodgrass. Robinson was (at least legally) the son of Thomas Carney and Mary Polly Hunt. Thomas was the son of David Carney of NC (Rowan and Iredell Counties) and Elizabeth Abbott. One researcher on the family stated that there was a court case in which a neighbor to Mary Polly Hunt Carney, named Ellis, claimed that her three youngest sons, Robinson, Joshua and Washington Carney were HIS sons and not Thomas Carney's. He reportedly won that case. This means there is somewhat of a cloud on the name and this is why I did not use David Carney as a Revolutionary War ancestor for DAR. Are there any two Carney males in the study with one descended from Robinson Carney and one descended from his older brother, David Coleman Carney who was not a part of the paternity dispute? Is there any Carney male who does not look like a Carney, but more like an Ellis? Thanks for anything anyone knows about this .
