I have recently started to research my Carney ancestry & I'm desperate for some links to get me started.
My G/Grandmother Bridget (Bridgid?) Mary Carney was born in Ballaghadereen Co. Roscommon around 1875 -80, I know she had at least one brother Jack, (who had to leave Ireland around 1912 because of trouble with the British Authorities)!
Bridget Mary moved to the UK (Manchester) some time prior to 1907 & had married Hugh McGowan probably some time before 1905, as their eldest child Patricia was born in 1906.
I have found a family of Carney's in the 1901 Census living in Ballaghadereen however I haven't been able to confirm a link.
If anyone out there has any information at all about my Carney's I would be really pleased to hear from you.
