My gg grandparents were John Carney and Mary McCormick, born as best guess in 1820s-30s. We know of two sons, my great grandfather, Thomas P. Carney, born either 1843 or 1849 and his brother, James, born 1840s-50s. James ended up in Erie (name of wife currently unknown), with seven children: Mary (Gilligan), Rose (Wilson), Theresa, John, William, Thomas, and James.
My great grandfather Thomas first sailed to New York in 1868, apparently returned to Ireland, married Sara(h) Boyle and had six children, of whom only my grandfather, James married. James was born in Altadoo, Killymard Parish, Co. Donegal in 1885. Sara died in 1885, and Thomas married her sister, Mary. Thomas returned to the US between 1886 and 1890, petitioned for citizenship in Ridgway, Elk Co. Pa in 1890 and was naturalized in Ridgway in 1892. The family then settled in DuBois, Clearfield Co. Pa by 1915, where my father was born.
Although this does not look like the same family as yours, the similarity in names and dates is striking, and I thought that even if we are not tracing the same line, you might have run across something related to me. Any information would be appreciated. tcarney@querrey.com
