In June 1849 James Carnegie, 9th Earl Southesk, married Catherine Hamilton Noel at Farnell.
Their 4th child and 1st son Charles Noel Carnegie (to become the 10th Earl) was born 1854.
There is a very comprehensive 2-volume "History of the Earls of Southesk and their Kin" by Sir William Fraser, published around 1880(?) but very few copies survive that I know of. There is a copy at the Manchester (UK) University Library, and one in Edinburgh. The FHS seem to have a microfilmed copy at Salt Lake City but I don't know if it is available for loan.
