Frank, Thank you of the offer of the obit & photos. Since I have discovered I am not related to the Carmean family, but more likely descend from a Carman of IL (still seeking), they would not be as important to me as to others who might visit this site. Re: Catherine B. Huffman obituary which "says that she married Mr. Carmean in 1824 and lived with [him] for 10 years." Let us first clarify that "Mr. Carmean" is: Zebulon "Zeb/Seb" Carmean (b 1800) s/o Pearson Carmean (1779 MD-1858 OH) "Marriage Records of Ross County, Ohio 1798-1849" says: Carmean, Teb m. Hufman, Caty 27 Mar 1823 vol. GB p. 489 Commean, Seb m. Hufaman, Caty 27 Mar 1823 vol. GB p. 489 I can't explain the double reference on the same page or the misspellings but there they are for what it's worth. [The transcriber may just be careless] [This came off the web, but I failed to note the site. Google it & it should come up.] There you will also find: Wilgas, Sanuel J. (sic) m. Carmean, Catharine 06 Aug 1837 vol. GD p 172. Furthermore: 1850 Census: Concord, Ross, OH: Samuel Wilgus 63 Farmer b PA, Catharine [Carmean] 45 b V (?), Nancy 12 b OH, Samuel L. 8 b OH, Pearson Carmean 23 Laborer b OH Here Catharine's son by Zeb named Pearson after his grandfather is living with her, further confirming she previously married a Carmean. Note the 3 spellings: Wilges (you give), Wilgas (Marriage Records give), & Wilgus (1850 census gives). I presume Wilges prevailed in your line. That's all I have about this branch of the Carmean family. Hope this helps. Charles Walthall descendant of Mary (Carman?)
