What does the Carlyon name actually mean?

Does anyone know what the name actually means or translates as? I`ve heard so many different tales over the years, but I`m still none the wiser????? Bet everyones heard the Richard the lionheart one LOL. My great grandfather was a tin miner in Cornwall, St Austel I think. But my more recent family live in Billinge, Lancs and Great Crosby, merseyside.
