Your Karl Hjalmar?

I decided to try to look for your Per Otto in the 1890 Swedish Census, in hopes of finding Karl Hjalmar with him but he wasn't there. (I couldn't find any Per Otto at all born 1881 in Vreta Kloster, as Emibas said. This one was born in 1880. Maybe a year was misread due to scribbly writing in one or more of the transcribed records.)

I think your Karl Hjalmar must have moved out to work somewhere or maybe he had already emigrated. At any rate, it looked as if the oldest remaining child in the above family had been born in Ljung parish, so I looked for your Karl Hjalmar in the birth records for 1873. I found a good possibility for you, born on 1 May 1873. I looked in handwritten Swedish parish records on the fee-based Genline site.

http://www.genline.com

This is the specific page on Genline. You can see it if you join Genline.

GID # (Genline Identification Number) 100005.57.23600

Birth # 25 in Ljung parish in 1873:

1 May

mark in column for male
Carl Hjalmar

first child (for the mother)

He was a twin with Hulda Elisabeth (who had a mark in column for female)

parents: Carl August Carlsson, worker in Voxholm (where he lived in that parish) and Carolina Persdotter

mark in column for legitimate male (Carl Hjalmar) and female (Hulda Elisabeth)

mark in column for married

The father's age was 23? (It was crossed out since the priest wasn't supposed to list the father's age) and the mother's age was 30

This seems to be the right Carl Hjalmar since the parents match those found for Per Otto. More investigation into the Swedish parish records will confirm or correct that thought.

This might be Karl Hjalmar in 1890. He was working as a farmhand.

This might be his twin. She was working as a maid.

I can't do all your research but I did try to find this family in the husförhörslängd (HFL), which is often translated as clerical survey record or household examination record. The HFL was a Swedish parish record similar in format to a census but updated continually and not just every ten years. The HFL is also more detailed than a census. It is the main reason Swedish genealogy is so easy compared to that in other countries, including the U.S. This handwritten record is also on Genline.

GID # 334.28.25700

This is the HFL for Ljung parish from 1881-1885.

Tenant farmer Karl August Karlsson, born 10 May 1849 in Lönsås, married 1??? November 1872

wife Karolina Persdotter, born 22 April 1843 in Tjellmo (Tjällmo)

her daughter Axelina Maria, born 30? June 1869 in Ljung

son of both Karl Hjalmar, born 1 May 1873 in Ljung (twin)

daughter of both Hulda Elisabeth, born 1 May 1873 in Ljung (twin)

son Frans Viktor, born 3 March 1875 in Ljung

son Johan August, born 26 October 1876 in Ljung

son Per Otto, born 20 September 1881 in an illegible place ((Wretakl___?) but we found his birth in Ljung parish so it must be something in that parish.

This does seem to be your Karl Hjalmar. What do you think? (You should do more research in the parish records, using Genline or microfilm ordered from a Family History Center) and also ask for help on the Sweden forum.)
