The children in this family would have used Karlsson (Carlsson) for males (son of Carl) or Carlsdotter (Karlsdotter) for females (daughter of Carl if they used patronymic customs, which were close to dying out at that time period. (There was a law requiring permanent family names in 1901.) They also might have used the father's last name or adopted a different last name or perhaps the females became modern and used the "son" ending.
