According to his SS# application, William Francis LOCKWOOD was born Marion P. CARLOCK August 19 1906, in St Louis MO, the natural son of Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, yes, that one, and Dorothy Mabel OBENCHAIN. Just starting to trace her.
WFL assumed the surname on his mother's marriage to Charles Henry Lockwood, his stepfather. WFL sired 10 children in three sets of which I am the eldest of the second litter. So we Lockwoods are genetically Carlock/Obenchain. I guess. Obenchain anyway, because as there is a very strong resemblance among all the Lockwood children, I see no resemblance to MPC or MPC's other children in looking at MPC's book. I have no picture yet of Dorothy, but there is a web picture of some other Obenchain women and they are very different from us male Lockwoods who have strong faces and lots of prematurely white hair. Scalp, alright?, we're not freaks.
Dorothy moved to FL became an art teacher, as did WFL, but perhaps her early lovelife had been as messy as his. "Children, let this be a lesson, take your passions to confession." Hey it's probably more entertaining than your family history.
