Hi,
It's Joyce here. I changed email address. I've been doing some work on Whitman's. I received email for VA State Library that said on the Reconstructed (from tax records)1740 Census there is NO Whitman on it. On the Recosntructed 1760 there is a William Whitman listed. I also found the will of a JOHN WHITMAN that died 1699 in James City (Jamestown) VA. No dependents are listed on the will. I have know idea who he was. I can't find anything else on him. Could Charles and Sarah Whitman lived in PA around 1740? But have to take into consideration the VA records are not complete. I've seen a John Whitman listed as being son of Charles and Sarah Mathis Whitman and possibly the father of Matthew. Sarah born in Wales. Have you seen the ship list with a Mathias Whitman and family and a Matthew Whiteman and family arriving PA 1733? I'm sure they where father and son. Mathias being the father. They came from Germany. Hope you are doing well. I'm still try to find out where Charles was born. Many came from Germany and even England and took ship from Rotterdam, Netherlands to America. Hope to hear from you soon. email joycemis@myway.com Joyce
