This is in reply to Dennis MCELHANNON's Jan. 30, 2005, posting to the CARLOCK GenForum titled "Frances I. Carlock." I find numerous CARLOCKs living in Mississippi around 1855, including one Frances I. CARLOCK who m. her cousin John CARLOCK, Jr., June 26, 1847, Marshall Co., MS, and had a son John F. CARLOCK b. Mar. 21, 1848, Marshall Co., MS. However, according to page 617 of the book "History of the Carlock Family," by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, her husband John d. 1875, which would mean that if this information is correct she is probably not the Frances for whom you are searching. In addition to numerous bits and pieces of CARLOCK information which I have not yet been able to connect to the rest of the CARLOCK family, I do find the following CARLOCK families who may have been living in MS during the timeframe you mention, many of whom can be found in the following report which appears on my home page: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE18-0001.html 1. Jacob C. CARLOCK, Jr. (s/o Jacob "Jake" CARLOCK, Sr., Hanchrist CARLOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), migrated to MS ca. 1840. Son William Voules Culton (or Vance) CARLOCK m. Elizabeth TATUM, ca. Aug. 30, 1852, Old Tishamingo Co. (now Alcorn Co.), MS. 2. John CARLOCK, Sr. (s/o George CARLOCK/KERLOCK/CERLAUGH, Frederick Cornelius CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), moved to northern Alabama with his family before the Civil War. John's sister Eleanor "Nellie" CERLOCK/KERLOCK KARR was in Marshall Co., MS, by 1850. John's son Cornelius had 4 daughters, Laura M., Frances I. (mentioned above), Jane H., and Lydia who married and/or lived in MS. John's son Thomas Tillman CARLOCK, Sr., had 5 children born in MS. John's son John CARLOCK, Jr., m. his cousin Frances I. CARLOCK (mentioned above). 3. John CARLOCK who m. Wilhelmina (believed to be the same lineage as John CARLOCK, Sr., mentioned above, but probably not the same person), and had children William, Margaret (or Martha), and Joseph S. who all m. in Marshall Co., MS. 4. Moses CARLOCK (Exact lineage unknown. Listed in my report as s/o ____ CARLOCK, _____ CARLOCK, Frederick Cornelius CARLOCK/CARELOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), listed on the 1841 and 1843 Marshall Co., MS, tax lists. 5. James CARLOCK and Robert CARLOCK (ancestries not yet determined), on 1841 and 1843 Marshall Co., MS, tax lists. 6. Thomas CARLOCK (ancestry not yet determined), on 1846 tax list for Marshall Co., MS. 7. Mary, b. ca. 1797, NC, on 1850 census, Tippah Co., MS, with sons Jacob G. CARLOCK, b. ca. 1829, TN, and William CARLOCK, b. ca. 1834, TN (ancestries not yet determined) 8. Zach CARLOCK (ancestry not yet determined), b. ca. 1825, MS, on 1880 census, Franklin Co., MS. Please let me know if you ever find any further information about the Frances I. CARLOCK who m. James D. MCELHANNON. I am also seeking information about the ancestry of Keith CARLOCK, who is the drummer for Sting, in the hopes of connecting him to the rest of the CARLOCK family. Information on the Internet says that Keith was b. in Greenville, MS, and is "from" Clinton, MS.
