Richard: I am descendant of a Long Island Carll family that included one Conklin Carll, born ca 1807 prob in Huntington Twp, Suffolk County, L.I. New York.Conklin was 6th of 10 children of Oliver Carll (1766-) and Philathea Oakley (1768-9-1844). Oliver was 5th generation of this Carll family.Earliest settler was Thomas Carl(e) who may have been born in Scotland and arrived on Long Island from England in about 1655.He married Sarah Halstead in 1656 in Hemstead, L.I. She was born ca 1638 in England to Jonas Halstead, who brought his family from England first to Conn and then to Hemstead Twp, LI, NY in 1655.
This Carll family is documented in great detail in the Huntington, L.I. NY Library. From that excellent information I summarized this family, listing the parents and all offspring , including to whom they were married, if it was shown, thru my 5th generation Treadwell (Conklin's older brother).I left a copy of this summary in the family reading file at that library several years ago, asking that anyone with any new information on my immediate line to contact...have heard from noone but the state historian. Some of the early Carll properties are designated NY State historic landmarks and the folks at the Huntington library are most generous with their assistance. If you come across anything on the descendants of Treadwell, or anything that indentifies unique features of this family, I would appreciate [email protected]
