RELATIONSHIP OF CARLISLE FAM./BRUCE FAM.

My mother and my daughter went on holiday to Scotland a couple of years ago (we live in England). They read a book in one of the shops which stated that Robert the Bruce's partner was named Isobel and to prevent his enemies targetting her he gave decided she should bear the surname Carlile. (presumably after the nearby place of Carlisle but spelt it without the S).Unfortunately Mum and Mel did not buy the book.
I too am researching Carliles.I have gone back to Joseph born 1768 and living in Wirral England but I cannot find his birth anywhere.I know of later Carliles who have gone to live in New Zealand and Australia and another branch of the family tree are in Canada but I have not come across any links with USA.If I can find the book about the Bruce/Carlile connection I will send on any info.
regards to all
Ann Carlile
